Boy, do I feel sheepish! After nearly 30 years with scoliosis, I had no idea that there was a scoliosis awareness month or even a support ribbon until I started this blog! Guess I have been out of the loop for quite some time! I am pleasantly surprised to see so much support available for people like us!
With much thought, I have found that one purpose of this blog is to help spread awareness about scoliosis as much as I can. I was lucky enough to have my scoliosis discovered early, and if I can help just one individual prevent the progression of this condition, then it will all be worth it.
So, what is scoliosis awareness? Good question!
National Scoliosis Awareness Month has been recognized every June since 2008 by scoliosis patients, families, and the medical community. The goal is to create a positive public awareness of scoliosis with emphasis on the continuing need for education, the importance of early scoliosis detection, understanding causes and treatment options, and to promote advancing medical research and new discoveries in the field of spinal deformities. Additionally, it is to acknowledge the ongoing need for charitable donations in order to provide support for people affected by scoliosis.
